“Lost World Parajet Expedition” 2005 Sponsored by Channel Four
This is the first paramotoring expedition ever to explore the infamous 'Lost World'. Immortalised by Conan Doyle, this one of the world's most hidden secrets, deep in the heart of the Venezuelan jungle.
World-renowned explorer, Bear Grylls, is leading a team to one of the most remote, forbidding, and unforgiving jungles on our planet - the so-called 'Lost World'... method of infiltration: Parajet.
Here, table top mountains rise up many thousands of feet above the mist and jungle. The sheer rock faces make access by foot almost impossible and to this day only a small number of these plateaux have ever been explored by man. To this very date, in 2005, the maps remain blank, with the cold words 'no data available' etched across the grid lines
These high, remote, forbidding plateaux are known as one of the last untapped wildernesses on earth, and recent scientific evidence has lead to the belief that this might be one of the few places on our planet where prehistoric creatures could still exist.
The Parajet backpack flying machine (click here to see the machines) provides the latest, most advanced means by which to explore this hidden land. With the shortest take-off and landing distance, and dynamic manoeuvrability the explorers hope to be able to find a clearing amongst the mist and jungle, and actually to land on the top of one of these plateaux.
The expedition culminates in a daring flight out from their hidden summits, soaring over the highest waterfalls on earth. The Angel Falls cascades over 3000ft vertically down to the jungle beneath- some 13 times higher than the Niagara Falls.
Filmed by Unique Productions for Channel Four this is intended to make up part of a two-hour Saturday night Special following this epic story. It is also being featured as a front-page travel feature for the Sunday Telegraph.
The Lost World expedition will be also be raising funds for Hope & Homes for Children, an international charity that looks after kids from war torn countries.
Caroline Cook, founder of Hope & Homes:
"Bear's one of our greatest supporters. He passionately believes that every child needs a family and with his help we can give many more orphaned and abandoned children this most precious gift."
